Board of Director Education

When it comes to non-profit board of directors, the two most common “work-on” areas tend to be:

1) Lack of in depth knowledge of the populations they serve.  Do you find yourself wishing your directors understand the obstacles faced by the populations you serve better?  Do you wish your directors could hear your clients’ stories?

2) Lack of training.  Does it feel like your board just shows up, without reading their packets?  Do you get frustrated because they aren’t getting involved in fundraising or volunteering?  Do you cringe when I ask you about diversity and inclusion? Do you have a board of director training procedure?

If any of these struck home, you aren’t alone.  Let’s talk.

Need something else?

A well worded white paper?  Help with your annual report?  A mass mailer?  A blog post? Maybe a presentation?  We see the spectrum and it doesn’t intimidate us!

Also, consider using KovirPage to provide social work supervision to qualifying staff or use our network to bring in interns from surrounding universities.  We’d love to talk to you more about it.

Marie Gress, LMSW-Macro

While living in Grand Rapids, Marie worked with refugee children, young adults, and families mainly from Central America, Sudan, and Syria.  This was the beginning of her exposure to grant writing and her supervisor frequently asked for help in researching and creating presentations.

In Ann Arbor, her work shifted to low-income community centers with youth and families.  It was here she started writing and editing policies, program development plans, and reusable curriculum & presentations for teen work programs.

In 2014 Marie settled in Milan where her skill set has been integral in board of director training, systems improvement, policy reform, program and fund development, marketing services, and increasing resource availability for rural older adults including improving capacity for homebound senior nutrition, senior transportation, and advocacy – mostly through writing!
